Amazon has rolled out a new Prime Video interface for streaming devices, smart TVs, and Android devices. The updated design ditches text-based tabs on top in favor of icon-based navigation on the side and introduces a dedicated tab for sports content.
New Navigation Menu and Home Screen
The revamped home screen features a new navigation menu on the side with icons for Find, Home, Store (for buying or renting titles), Live TV (to see content from subscribed channels), Free with Ads (Amazon’s FreeVee service), and My Stuff (watchlists and purchases). This is similar to the new Fire TV interface, which adopted icons instead of text for tabs last month.
"We are redesigning the Prime Video experience to highlight our broad selection of content and make it easier for customers to find the content they love," Amazon stated in a pre-written statement. The company emphasized that with this update, it is clearly marking paid and free titles, denoting those included with Prime Membership with a blue check mark and those that need to be paid for with a golden shopping bag.
New Sports Tab and Live TV Interface
The new Sports tab is a significant addition to the Prime Video interface, allowing users to easily find live sports, replays, and highlights of recently concluded matches and documentaries. A carousel enables navigation through different leagues available in the user’s region.
Amazon has also refreshed the Live TV tab design with a channel guide interface available by default, enabling users to switch to content from their subscribed channels quickly.
Bigger Carousel for Amazon Originals and Top 10 Charts
The updated home screen features a larger banner carousel on top called All, which includes four new subnavigation options: Movies, TV Shows, Sports, and Other. This makes it easier for users to find content in these categories.
The home page also displays bigger carousels with trailers for Prime Originals, a top 10 chart for the region, and a carousel to easily find current subscriptions.
Search Filters Now Available on Big Screens
The new Find menu now shows title suggestions as you type, and users can filter out suggestions by categories, genres, or titles available in 4K. These search filters were already available on the web and mobile apps but are now being rolled out to big screens.
Amazon’s Approach to Streaming Content on Big Screens
The company’s approach is not surprising, given that people spend more time streaming content on large screens. Amazon aims to provide an improved user experience with its redesigned interface, making it easier for users to discover and access their favorite shows and movies.
What Does This Mean for Users?
With the updated Prime Video interface, users can expect a more intuitive and engaging viewing experience. The new navigation menu and home screen design make it easier to find content, while the dedicated Sports tab provides an improved way to access live sports and related content.
The introduction of search filters on big screens also enhances the overall user experience, allowing users to quickly find specific titles or genres.
Conclusion
Amazon’s redesigned Prime Video interface is a significant upgrade, providing users with a more streamlined and engaging viewing experience. The new navigation menu, home screen design, and dedicated Sports tab all contribute to an improved user experience, making it easier for customers to discover and access their favorite shows and movies.
The introduction of search filters on big screens also enhances the overall user experience, allowing users to quickly find specific titles or genres.
